It’s time for big changes in the city government in Santa Clara. The current system may be working for staff and the favored few but it is not working for residents. The city needs to do away with its antiquated “at large” election of council members, which simply allows the same people and families to control this city year after year for their own interests. Santa Clara is far too big to continue to function on part-time city council members who know nothing about city codes but rather depend on a corrupted city staff. It should be required that all department directors, the people making the decisions, live within the city of Santa Clara to hold down these highly-paid positions. The decisions made every day by these department directors who don’t live in Santa Clara are having huge negative impacts daily on the lives of the residents.
