Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara Ranked Among Top 50 in Country for Kidney Care

The latest study of hospital care performance by U.S. News & World Report gave 16 Kaiser Permanente Northern California hospitals a “high performing” ranking and named Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara Medical Center one of the top 50 hospitals in the country for treating kidney disease.

Key findings from the annual study, a well-known quality assessment of hospital care, include:

• Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara Medical Center is ranked among the top 50 hospitals in the nation for nephrology (kidney disease care) and one of three Kaiser Permanente hospitals ranked among the state’s top 50 overall.
• Kaiser Permanente San Jose and South San Francisco medical centers both ranked among the state’s top 50 hospitals.
• Thirteen Northern California Kaiser Permanente hospitals are rated “high performing” for congestive heart failure treatment; eight are “high performing” for the treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), and three are “high performing” for knee replacement.
• Sixteen Kaiser Permanente Northern California hospitals received “high performing” ratings in at least one of 25 measures for specialty and/or common care: Antioch, Fresno, Modesto/Manteca, Oakland/Richmond, Redwood City, Roseville, Sacramento, San Francisco, San Jose, San Rafael, Santa Clara, Santa Rosa, South Sacramento, South San Francisco, Vacaville and Vallejo.

• The 29th annual study is based on an evaluation of more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide. This study is intended to help guide patients to hospitals that deliver outstanding care across 25 complex specialties, procedures and common conditions.
• In all, 29 Kaiser Permanente hospitals across the country were rated “high performing” for at least one of the 25 measures. Six other hospitals in Southern California were also rated among the state’s top 50 overall.
